A High Pollen Alert Hid a Covid Attack
Sneaky Covid bastard disguised itself as pine pollen; shame on it
My coworker thought he was having an allergy attack, and it turns out he had Covid. It was too late when he told me as I was already exposed.
In all fairness, the pollen count this year in Texas is high. It is relentless. The National Weather Service has issued high pollen alerts daily and recommends that people with respiratory problems stay inside.
The pollen leaves a yellow dusting on every surface, with a fine mist of particulates floating in the air. Pollen is annoying and the source of many sinus infections, allergies, and general breathing problems. It’s the perfect cover-up for a Covid condition.
An ongoing conversation amongst my colleagues is complaining about allergy attacks while carrying around pockets of tissues and wondering what over-the-counter drugs to try. It is a bad situation, but we are Texans, a resilient population, and not ones to let a few grams of misty powder slow us down.
Little did I realize that some folks complaining of allergies were Covid positive. It never crossed my mind until I woke up one morning and felt like a freight train had hit me. My coughing had escalated to total body retching with nausea and chills. My appetite was gone…
