A Night of Weather Terror

Nighttime tornadoes are very dangerous

Many years ago, I worked for a company that was headquartered in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. The town is northwest of Minneapolis.

I travelled extensively up there, sometimes two to three times a month.

I experienced the best and worst of Minnesota weather, from fierce winter blizzards to hot, steamy days. There were cool and comfortable days, and days when mosquitoes the size of basketballs filled the air.

On multiple occasions, I endured thunderstorms so severe and frightening that I was concerned for my safety.

One night, I was oblivious to the weather reports and didn’t hear that storms would be moving through after 10 p.m.

The weather had been good all day, but that means nothing since the atmosphere was unstable and waiting for the right conditions to trigger storms.

I should have been more vigilant, but time slipped away from me, and I thought that after experiencing several major hurricanes, a thunderstorm couldn’t really shake me.

I was wrong.

That night, after I went to bed, I was awakened by the rumble of distant thunder. Looking out my window, I could see lightning flashes but…
