No, they are not 3-D printed replicas of the Coronavirus. Or pinkish globs of dog snot.

They are edible, sweet, and crunchy. They’ve been around for many years, and they are addictive.

They are French Burnt Peanuts. You read that correctly. They are candy made with peanuts, sugar, and red dye. And their official name is French Burnt Peanuts, aka Candied Peanuts.

French burnt peanuts (also known as candy peanuts) used to be sold by the scoopful at the corner candy store, but now they are a bit harder to find. Delicious, fresh Spanish peanuts, covered in a crunchy candy shell.

There is very little French about them, especially since they are made with Spanish Peanuts. Since Spain is near France, one could consider it a French confection. But that doesn’t seem right.

And there’s nothing burnt about them. Although some claim the peanuts inside are roasted before the candy coating is applied. But I ate a whole bag looking for that scorched taste and couldn’t find it.

I was sure there would be a Roasted French flavor thrown there, much like dark roasted coffee. But nothing fitting the definition of French Burnt hit my tastebuds.
