Have You Hugged a First Responder Today?
They work hard to ensure we are safe
I drive an hour every morning through the thick of traffic to get into my office. I don't mind. It is challenging at times; other times, it is smooth driving.
The other day traffic came to a complete halt on the freeway. I was trapped in a middle lane and immediately began thinking about why I didn't take the alternate toll road.
Five, ten, and then fifteen minutes went by as we crept along at less than five miles per hour. I suspected a major accident had taken place. The traffic helicopter flying around is never a good sign.
A few minutes later the radio traffic guy mentioned a significant accident causing a massive backup right where I was.
As traffic inched forward, I saw flashing lights in the distance. Trucks and cars were beginning to shift lanes as it became evident that three lanes out of five were closed. I was soon close enough to see what was happening, and it was not pretty.
The local fire department blocked three left lanes while they had a crew working with the jaws of life to extract a driver and passenger. The car was pretty mangled, and all I could hope was that the injuries were not serious or fatal.
