How Many Questions Did You Ask Today, and Did You Listen to the Answers?
Ask and listen, it’s fun
I recently started watching House on Amazon Prime TV and immediately got hooked even though the show was produced in 2004.
I suffer from delayed TV watching, meaning there are a lot of excellent TV shows that I never bothered to watch when they came out. Some of the shows are 30 years old, and I've recently discovered them.
If you're not familiar with House, it's the story of Doctor House, who is rude, obnoxious, annoying, sloppy, and generally an ass to his coworkers and patients. He's also disabled and addicted to pain medications. But he is genius enough to figure out the answers to specialized medical cases that appear unsolvable. Thus making him a hospital hero, albeit a sad example of humanity.
Dr. House spends 80 percent of his time asking questions. He amplifies the Socratic Method of problem resolution by forcing critical thinking through questioning. His favorite diagnostic tool is a simple whiteboard with markers to list ideas and results.
While House is a medical TV show, its message is clear. We need to ask questions to achieve our goals. Most importantly, we need to listen to the answers provided.
