I met a guy who gets all his news from watching gas pump television. He has a pretty distorted view of life.

If you're not familiar with gas pump television, they are the little TV monitors built into some gas pumps that show videos as you are pumping gas.

The presenters are primarily loud, obnoxious reporters with general interest stories interspersed with advertisements about what to buy inside the convenience store.

It's a form of marketing and advertising supplemented with some usable content. People pumping gas are a captured audience. But in some cases, the practice has a detrimental effect.

If the news is something I've already seen or heard, I'll only put in twenty dollars of gas, so I don't have to watch any longer than necessary.

Some pumps have mute buttons to turn off the sound, but like the little receipt printers, they rarely work.

For close to five dollars a gallon, they should show porn with liquor store advertisements instead of general interest stories. The porn will keep my attention.
