The movie 2001: A Space Odyssey foretold the future, and the future is now and beyond
The Movie
2001: A Space Odyssey is part movie, part acid trip. An epic movie that’s been studied by every film class in the world. A film filled with great music and awesome effects that touch many things we experience today.
If you are like me, you saw the movie when it first came out and many times more over the last fifty years. Remember how slow it was, with little dialog and a limited number of actors? But there was something exotic and haunting about how Kubrick pulled it off. My friends and I were always in awe of its magnificence.
Multiple plots and subplots intertwined into an interesting story about the origin of man. Not the most fun-filled topic, but certainly one that Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clark turned into an enticing movie and a successful book.
One character that stands out is a computer, HAL 9000. An electronic persona created out of pure genius, representing an early adaptation of artificial intelligence with human emotions.
