Oh No, Not An Escape Room!
The worst team-building exercise I’ve ever been involved with
A few years ago, I ended up in an escape room with my peers from the office.
It sounds pretty lame, but when you put six alpha dog salespeople in a locked room, things get interesting.
We were all sales leaders, with dynamic personalities, driven to succeed while never letting a challenge stand in our way.
That is, until someone decided that, after our quarterly business review, our team-building event would be to get drunk and then get locked in.
Escape rooms involve solving multiple puzzles or riddles that reveal clues, which, when interpreted correctly, lead to the next challenge. Ultimately, after completing all the steps, you receive the code to open the electronic door lock.
Escape rooms have gained popularity over the years, but they are not on my bucket list. I prefer team-building activities like spending an evening at the bowling alley, watching a baseball game from a luxury suite, playing in a golf tournament, or working together on a white-water rafting trip in Arizona.
