One Bagel Please Before the Dogs and Kids Eat Them
Bagels have become my secret indulgence
I suffer from overactive house syndrome. I have grandkids and a few dogs living with me. They’re good kids, and the dogs are great, but there are more days full of activity and chaos than calm, especially regarding food.
It is incredible how much the kids eat and how little they taste. I’ve noticed they have the palate of a dog, willing to eat almost anything that doesn’t look like a vegetable, with a preference towards nuggets, fries, and hot dogs.
How this living arrangement came to be is another story. For now, having six additional people squeezed into my house makes for a lot of exciting energy.
It’s not uncommon for emotional drama to appear out of nowhere. As Granddad, I try to stay uninvolved, but I get sucked into the vortex occasionally.
The kids are between four and fifteen years old, consisting of three girls and a boy. Add my daughter and a friend who needed a place to stay; life has taken on an exciting chapter.
It’s not quite what I envisioned in my preretirement years.
Luckily, I have a sizable house. Since my wife passed away a few years ago, I converted the main bedroom to a granddad’s cave, complete with a few computers, a wide-screen TV, and…
