One is not the loneliest number

Who said one was a lonely number?

Harry Nilsson did. He was a singer/songwriter who wrote the song ONE in 1968, which was subsequently covered by Three Dog Night. ONE was a hit with its melody and flowing lyrics. But somewhat sad in deep meaning.

The opening line is:

One is the loneliest number you’ll ever do

And then, twenty years later, Bono wrote a song named ONE. It has the classic line:

You say, one love, one life

It is a good song with deep meaning behind its lyric.

But there is a recurring social theme that needs addressing. There is nothing wrong with being a party of one.

I am a party of one, and I don’t mind. I enjoy being with my best friend — me. And am reluctant, at times, to expand to two, three, or four companions.

Here are a few significant points regarding number one:

  • Counting begins with the number one.
  • If you take one away from one, you have zero, which is nothing.
  • One translates to A in the alphabet.
  • It is a critical number in binary code, the foundation for…
