Southeast Texas was a target during the Cuban Missile Crises. The schools I attended were all built as shelters, with thick cement and cinder block walls. They've since been torn down mostly due to asbestos. I remember every Friday at noon the Air Raid signals would be tested. I never thought we'd go through this again.
