The 3G Cell Network is Shutting Down, and How It Might Affect You

Life-saving devices might need upgrading

Some friends are upset because they received letters from their cell phone carrier that the 3G Network is shutting down.

They think I should be compassionate and pat them on the back, saying, "you'll be okay; your twenty-year-old flip phone is just as good as new."

But I can't do that.

Cell phones and mobile networks have come a long way in twenty years. We can't hang on to the past as one clings to an old pair of jeans. New features, functionality, security, and connectivity all rely on the carrier and the updates made to their networks.

Remember 8 Track Tape Players, Rotary Telephones, Walkmans, Pong, Black and White Television, Apple II Computers, Radios that only played AM Stations? They were all state of the art at the time. But it's hard to find them now. They are either obsolete or very low on the consumer food chain. And that's how people need to view the 3G Network shutdown.

Old technology is excellent for history while serving as technological stepping stones to today's environment.
